5 Essential Tips for First Time Campers
BUY A BIGGER TENT
By the time you’ve added in all your gear, airbeds and friends, it can get rather cosy in your tent! Upgrade to the size up from the number of people staying with you to ensure there is plenty of room for you all.
PREPARE FOR THE WORST
Even in the Summer, it’s not unusual to see a spot of rain in the UK! Take extra layers of clothing, and a good set of waterproofs to ensure you are prepared for whatever the weather throws at you.
RESEARCH THE CAMPSITE
There are some fantastic resources to help find your perfect camping spot. Make sure that you filter by the facilities that you are looking for, and book in advance where possible. Tip! It’s cheaper (and more social!) to get a pitch without power.
PERFORM A DRY RUN
Make sure that your tent and gear is all ready to shine when you hit the fields - test it before you leave. Putting up and taking down your tent once you know how it works will be much easier if you’ve tried it before.
WHERE TO SET UP CAMP
Pick a site with flat ground, and well away from any areas that could fill up with water in heavy rainfall (valleys, trenches, river paths). Clear the ground and pitch your tent so that the door faces away from any wind.
